Sentani, Jubi – Three years has passed since the declaration of the Resurrection of Indigenous Peoples in Jayapura by the local government, but society still has little respect for traditional leaders.
“As a result of good behavior from the public much less impact to the traditional leaders in the village. Traditional leaders are not respected by their society. Even the society will show unpleasant acts and also commit violence against indigenous leaders or we call “ Ondoafi”, “Origenes Kaway, Tribal Vice chairman of the Sentani Board said to Jubi in Sentani on Wednesday (24/06/2015).
He said the concern should be addressed properly by each traditional leader or Ondoafi.
“A Ondoafi or Ondofolo has huge influence on the community. We have rule and sanctions that can be applied there. So I hope a leader can be respected by society, “he added.
He further said there are many acts of violence committed by our generation that need to be punished.
“In the near future DAS will call each ondofolo to discuss it,”Origenes Kaway which also Ondofolo of Bambar village said,
Previously, Jayapura regent deputy appealed to the youth in each village to not commit acts of violence against their parents and their tribal leaders.
“As the leader of Jayapura regency, I would like to remind all of us area reminded us all particularly the young generation to always respect their parents – especially their Ondofolo,” he said. (Engel Wally/Tina)
