Jayapura, Jubi – A trial over the death of Papuan activist Robert Jitmau (Rojit) was adjourned after pressure from hundreds of people grouped under Solidarity with Papua People demanding the court revealed the cause of his death.

“We are adjourning the trial of the defendant until Thursday,” said Chief Judge Syafruddin, SH in the trial held in the Jayapura State Court on Tuesday (4/10/2015). After almost 40 minutes pauses, the decision was taken to response at the urging of Rojit’s family and friends who came in the trial when it was running for less than 10 minutes.

Earlier, mass have been gathered in the courtyard at around 12:00 Papua time. They brought and displayed the banners around the entrance, which one of those stated ‘the death of Rojit was not a traffic accident but murder.
”People did the oration to ask the court to suspend the trial as well as to ask the court for presenting the key and expert witnesses, including the doctor and traffic accident expert in the next trial. We are simply asking for trial suspense, presenting the three key witnesses. It is the most important thing for us,” Rojit’s cousin Jimmy Iji said in the oration.

Improve the case
Rojit’s father Semuel Jitmau similarly said the confession of the three witnesses –besides they have not presented yet—were contradictive against each other. According to him, two of three key witnesses are Krisfus Kambuaya and Yusuf Sraun have been witnessed in the previous court, but another witness Aprilius Jitmau who’s known with Rojit before his death did not be presented until the fifth trial to read the verdict.
“Because those (witnesses) gave different witnesses in front of the parents and the trial, we question it. So we asked the court could see this and develop it and reveal this case. We think the court seems do not want to present the key witnesses as well as the experts such as forensic and others,” Jitmau told Jubi.

He said he with his entire family would stand with all Rojit’s friends and Papuan women traders that always fight for justice enforcement in the land of Papua.
“We will stand. We won’t ask for more, we just want a justice in Papua to be realized, the justice for our son,” he said.

One of Rojit’s friend Cyntia said she hope the cause of Rojit’s death could be revealed by presenting the key witnesses as well as expert witnesses.
“Needs comparison. Because (the explanation of) the witnesses went to the traffic accident. The doctor should be tell whether this (death) was caused by traffic accident or murder by referring to the injure,” she said.
At around 14:55, people began to dispersed orderly after the judge and prosecutor left the court room. They asked the suspension to be used to develop the case and present the key witnesses in the next trial.
“We asked the key witnesses to be presented, not only to be suspended. Suspend it and develop this case, please presenting the key witnesses,” he said. (*/rom)
