Jayapura, 2/7 (Jubi) – The Regional Military Command XVII of Cenderawasih said the potential for security threats during the presidential election on July 9 is fairly small.
XVII Cenderawasih military commander, Major General Christian Zebua said an expected major rally on July 1 to mark the birth of the separatist National Liberation Army/Free Papua Movement (TPN / OPM) did not materialize.
“Previously, we had heard that they were going to celebrate it and create disturbances, yet the community was not provoked. I think, July 9 will be the same, ” he said on Wednesday (2/7).
He further said that security forces will not be complacent and continue to perform preventive action. Military and police continue to conduct social action so that people are not affected.
“We also conduct security precautions, sweeping and patrolling,” he said.
The military personnel are already being deployed to secure the upcoming presidential election. As many as 5,000 soldiers remain on stand-by.
“I told personnel that if any armed civilian groups take any action, please face them professionally, “he said. (Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina)
