Jayapura 6/2 (Jubi) – Ten districts in Sarmi regency have threatened to boycott the upcoming legislative and president elections over delays in the inauguration of the local election commission.

Representatives of Sarmi Customary House, Yohan Yaas stated urged the Papua Election Commission (KPU Papua) to inaugurate the Sarmi regency election commission (KPUD Sarmi) immediately.
” We, representatives of the Sarmi Customary House are neutral and do not do favor anyone. We are here to convey our aspirations about the formation of KPUD Sarmi. If there is a delay, we (the villagers) will boycott the 2014 elections in 10 districts,” said Yohan after a meeting with the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of Papua on Thursday (6/2)
A member of the district election committee, Elias Awete, echoed Yohan.
“ I think it’s been six months we have not received the Final Voter List ( DPT) from 10 districts,” Elias said.
The coordinator of the United Sarmi Movement Forum, Marthen Insyaf said the group had submitted the results of talks on the KPUD Sarmi case with authorities to the Sarmi police and the provincial police.
“Please Immediately to follow up on our demands. The candidates (for Sarmi KPUD) have passed the selection stages. Who are actually the actors behind of this scenario?“ said Marthen.
He said he suspected there were attempts to commit electoral fraud.
Meanwhile,  Papua police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sulistyo Hartono Pudjo declined to comment on the matter.
At the meeting with the United Sarmi Movement Forum and four witnesses from the public and tribal leadership, police issued a letter pledging to investigate the KPUD candidate selection process and the delay in inaugurating the KPUD Sarmi by the KPU Papua. (Jubi / Indrayadi TH/ Tina)
