Jayapura, Jubi – The youth leader in Idadagi village, Dogiyai sub-district, Dogiyai Regency, Yohanes Kamo, said swine flu has hit the village and killed dozens of pigs.
“Up to 36 pigs reportedly dead. Those pigs were found rotten on the bushes,” Kamo told Jubi by phone on Sunday (19/6/2016). According to him, the outbreak has been occurred for a week. Meanwhile residents have killed 62 more to prevent the swine flu spreading to other villages.
For that reason, he asked the local government to look at the scene, because the pig farming is the only business that bring more income and pass down through generations in this village.
“Therefore we asked to Dogiyai Regional Government as well as Papua Provincial Government through relevant offices to visit the village. Because we are Mee tribe only have the high value income through pig farming,” he said.
Separately, the Acting Head of Trading, Industry and Cooperation Office Andreas Gobai confirmed the concern of his office on the incident. Gobai said after looking this situation, he asked the Veterinary Clinic from Jayapura to handle this situation.
“As an office dealing with business affairs in Dogiyai, we are very concerned about this outbreak. Therefore, we ask the Veterinary Clinic in Jayapura to immediately check this condition,” he said. (Abeth You/rom)
