Jayapura, Jubi – Dozens of student protestors demanded Cendraawasih University to immediately replaceYohanes Krey as the dean of the medical faculty.
Demonstration coordinator, Herman Nerotouw in his speech at the front of Papua Governor’s office, on Tuesday (11/11), said that the students reject Krey was because his appointment was not in accordance with procedures and the Health Act number 23 of 2003.
“The Act mandates that the dean position must be a doctor. Unfortunately, the current dean has no health background and does not understand the problem at the Faculty of Medicine, ” Herman Nerotouw stated.
The protesters asked governor Lukas Enembe to see the problem and immediately reassigned dr. Paulina Watofa as the dean.
“Paulina Watofa was the first woman who established the medical faculty. Her struggle should be appreciated and she deserves to re-occupy the position,” Nerotouw explained.
The regional secretary of Papua, Hery Dosinaen, said that the issue was fully the responsibility of the rector. The government was assigned only to resolve the problems and made sure that learning activities returned to normal.
“The substitution was based on the decision of the Uncen Senate. Papua Governor could not intervene, “Hery Dosinaen said.
“Many students disagreed about the substitution. However, he hopes that it would not hamper academic activities, ” he hoped. (Alexander Loen/ Tina)
