Jayapura, Jubi – Cenderawasih XVII Regional Military Commander Major General Hinsa Sibuarian warned his soldiers against committing abuses in Papua, saying the region is constantly on the spotlight because of the conflict.
Siburian said the Indonesian Military’s job is to nurture, protect and guarantee the security of the people.
“Kodam XVII soldiers must be aware that Papua is currently being highlighted because it is considered a risk area. Therefore, soldiers should maintain the solidarity among the Military body, as well as towards the Police and the community,“ Siburian told Jubi through email on Tuesday (1/9/2015).
He further said the soldiers should be down-to-earth and maintain the unity and integrity of nation. They are afforded by the Supreme Commander with position, fundamental task and responsibility.
“Military has obligation to protect people. Regarding to the last incident happened in TImika, which is two people were allegedly shot by military personnel, it shouldn’t be happened in the future. I also declare to my soldiers to not drinking alcohol. It’s in line with Commander’s order,” he said.
He said should be done in the future is how to encourage the community economy and development in each region. Thus, Commander Siburian said he do not want seeing his soldiers hurt the people’s heart. (Arjuna Pademme/rom)
