Sentani, 14/7 (Jubi) – The Lake Sentani area has the potential to a be fish farming hub, an official said.

Unfortunately, the only 15 hectares have been utilized while ther remaining , and the remaining approximately 921 hectares can be used for aquaculture.
“It could be developed for fish farming, such as maintenance fish in cages at 10 percent It means that a 936 Ha could be developed. But in fact, only 15 acres are used, ” head of Jayapura department of Marine and Fisheries, Franklin K Mananoma said to tabloidjubi.com, in Sentani on Friday (11/7).

He hopes, local community can make the best use of the area to improve their livelihood and the welfare of the people in Sentani lake.

Meanwhile, one of the businessmen from Jayapura, John Monim, recognizes that Sentani lake has great potential, especially in the field of freshwater fisheries. However, great potential, it is not used by communities who live around the Sentani lake.
“I recommend that the fund for village empowerment can be used to build fish cages which are managed by clan groups around the village. So, it can provide tangible results for communities around the lake, “he said. (Jubi / Albert/ Tina)
