Merauke, Jubi (18/2) – The search for five missing fishermen whose boat was burned allegedly by a Papua New Guinea navy patrol was halted on Tuesday (18/2).
Merauke deputy regent Sunarjo, in a meeting with the families of survivors and the missing fishermen at Pantai Lampu Satu on Tuesday, said he decided to dissolve the Joint Rescue Station of cross-related agencies.
“Once again, on behalf of the government I apologize to the families of missing victims,” he said.
“The joined station is dissolved, however if people get some new information, please report it immediately to the related office for a quick response,” he said.
The Head of Operations of SAR Office Meauke, Suparman also apologize for not being able to continue the search in the Karu Sea off Papua New Guinea because they have not obtained a permit from the PNG government.
“I also want to say that according to the rule, the search should stop after seven days. However, there’s a possibility to continue the search. SAR Officers at Okaba also been reminded to monitor the situation out there,” he said. (Jubi/Frans L Kobun/rom)
