Jayapura, Jubi – The head of the Agency for Regional Development Acceleration (BP2KP), Omar Laduani Ladamay, said rail transport would be very effective and efficient way to transport goods in eastern provinces and keep prices low.
“Papua province is notorious for high cost, especially in the highland areas, where prices are 60 percent higher. To that end, the government is now trying to find a solution how to reduce them by building a railway line,” Ladamay told reporters in Jayapura, Papua this week.
He further said to realize it, the central government has allocated its budget where for the early stage of budget would be Rp10.3 trillion.
“The construction of this railway should be realized as soon as possible yet it depends on the readiness of the region itself. Actually, the central government has prepared a budget for the release of customary land,” he added.
Railway construction is a long-term program and the total funds to all regions can be connected estimated at Rp120 trillion.
“For a start we will construct 300 kilo meters. Based on governor’s direction, we will start from Timika to highland regions, “he stated.
Previously, head of Transportation of Papua Province, Yusuf Yambe Yabdi said the Ministry of Transportation targeted to accomplish one railway by 2017. (Alexander Loen/ Tina)
