Provincial Government to Discuss Railway Project with Ministry of Transportation

Jayapura, Jubi – The Papua provincial government will discuss rail projects with the Ministry of Transportation as an effort to accelerate infrastructure development in Papua.

The assistant for economic affairs and social welfare of Papua Province, Elia Loupatty, said Monday (15/6) that the discussion was scheduled to take place on Tuesday (16/6).
“The meeting is expected to discuss construction of a railway in Papua province,” Elia said.

Elia said a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation discussed the commitment of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe to accelerate railway construction in Indonesia.
“This meeting is definitely as one of the efforts to accelerate the construction of the railway in order to support the acceleration of infrastructure development in Papua,” he added.

Previously, the Papua provincial government plans to start building the railroad in 2017 for the opening isolated local area.

The central government and the provincial government of Papua will start the study early stage of railway construction in 2015. (*/Tina)
