Jayapura, Jubi – Seven Abepura prison guards could face four years in jail for alleged negligece over the escape of 13 prisoners on 8 January.
Jayapura Municipal Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Police Commissionaire Jermias Rontini said the Police have questioned the officers on duty at that time as witnesses.
“We will explore the case to find out whether the escape was deliberate or not. Those are officers on duty at that time of the escape incident was occurred,” Rontini said after attending a multi-sector meeting at Papua Police Headquarters on Monday evening (11/1/2015).
However, the Police have not questioned yet the Abepura Prison Chief, Bagus Kurniawan. Rontini said at the time of incident, the seven prison officers were not armed. They are Tineke Fressye Rumbiak (female), Intan Hidayati (female), Ishak Rumbiak (female), Theodora (female), Herman Randongkir (male), M Ramadhan (male) and Soleman Banosrof (male).
Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Police Paulus Waterpauw confirmed that the Police Municipal Investigators have questioned the prison officers. He further said the internal regulation would be applied on this case.
“The inspectorate officers of the Ministry of Law, Security and Defense Affairs probably will come. Now our task is to do an integrated work for bringing the prisoners back to the prison. We’ll ask people to help providing information,” he said. (Arjuna Pademme/rom)
