President Joko Widodo while visited Merauke – Jubi

Merauke, Jubi – Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka said rice production in Merauke should increase from five to eight tons per hectare.

Generally, most farmers produce rice ranging from five to to six tons per hectare.

He said in order to produce eight tons, the government needs to improve its varieties, and equipment.
“It is the target of president Joko Widodo but it must pay attention to varieties and modern equipment used, So that at the time of planting and harvesting process, there will not have problems in the field,” he told Jubi last week.

He said Merauke is very suitable for rice cultivation. Thus, if all the equipment is set up well including irrigation channels, he believed one hectare can produce eight tons of rice.

President hoped that the opening of the 1.2 million hectares of agricultural land, can provide improve the livelihoods of the community and Merauke would be the only supplier of rice in Eastern Indonesia.
