Merauke, Jubi – President Joko Widodo was surprised to find out that rice in Merauke Regency was relatively cheap at between Rp 6.500 – Rp 7.000 per liter, below the purchase price of of the logistics agency (bulog) .

Jokowi said the finding should prompt the government to review price standards for rice.
“I have ordered to Bulog to buy rice from farmers directly,” Jokowi said at a press conference in Kampung Wapeko, Kurik District, Merauke this week.

During this time, Bulog established cooperation with the partners to buy rice from farmers at that price. He then reiterated that from now on, Bulog must buy rice from farmers and not from the third party again.
“I will also be going to buy all the rice that have been milled and ready to be purchased. The command is very clear that Bulog must get the rice from farmers from now on, “he said.

Continued, if the rice from Merauke already be exported out of the country, will automatically be taken into account and considered the purchase price from farmers.
“At the moment, Bulog buy directly from the farmers at a price of Rp 7,300,” he added.
