Jayapura, Jubi – West Papua National Committee (KNPB) urged Papua Police to free all of its activists detained before a fact-finding team from the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) came to Papua.
“Release our friends that were arreseted in Biak, Manokwari and Yahukimo,” said a spokesman for KNPB, Bazoka Logo in Padangbulan, Jayapura on last week.
He suspected that KNPB activists had been arrested with no clear legal process.
“Those who are in Biak should be released on October 14, but is still on hold,” he said.
He continued, KNPB activists detained in Manokwari, West Papua and Yakuhimo have also undergone a process and it was unclear.
“Yahukimo activists taken to Wamena are still waiting for the legal process,” said Logo
He considered that the government seeks to criminalize KNPB for fear of our demand of Independence.
Until this news was released, head of Public Relations of Papua Police, Police Commissioner Patrige Renwarin did not confirm related to the detained activists and legal process.
Meanwhile, a faculty of Cendrawasih University (Uncen), Marianus Yaung asked KNPB to not to push KNPB activists released, so TPF from PIF can investigate it when they are in Papua.
According to him , if KNPB activists freed, the Indonesian government will get benefit. “Let them detained so that they (fact-finding) know the fact. Jokowi government will use this as a political tool to dampen Papuan issue abroad,” said Marinus Yaung. (Mawel Benny)
