Jayapura 25/3 (Jubi) – As many as 456 police in Papua province are being assigned to seven police precincts to maintain security ahead of the legislative elections scheduled for April 9, Papua police spokesman Commissioner Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono said.

“There are 57 police personnel deployed in the Mamberamo Raya police, 32 Police personnel in Pegunungan Bintang, 30 personnel in Asmat, 20 personnel in Yahukimo, 30 personnel in Lanny Jaya and 90 personnel in Jayapura City,” Hartono said in Jayapura on Tuesday (25/3).

He further said that there will be more personnel in Jayawijaya, totaling 197. The first deployment to Pegunungan Bintang will leave by plane on Wednesday (26/3).

Recently, Papua police have received requests for reinforcements totaling 570 members of the Mobile Brigade unit from 12 district police stations in Papua and West Papua to safeguard the elections, he said.
“The highest demand came from the Manokwari police, which requested 133 Mobile Brigade police, followed by Mimika with 100 personnel and Puncak Jaya 25 personnel, ” Sulistyo said.
