A passenger who hit police when taken to the police station (Jubi)

Jayapura, 7/5 (Jubi) – A policeman was hit by a passenger on Labobar ship while conducting an operation  at Jayapura port on Wednesday (7/6).

Lintang, an eyewitness said that the incident began when unknown passenger got off from the ship and was asked to show his identity card by members of the police.

The passenger suddenly hit Brigadier Agus, a member of the Jayapura police.
“He then ran out of the port together with some friends and got on the public transportation. Police chased and were able to stop the taxi driver. The police then told him to get off. He got off and hit a member of the traffic police again,” Lintang said on Wednesday (7/5).

Other police officers hit the man back.
“After that he was taken to the Jayapura Police Station,” he said.

Police banned a number of journalists who were there at the scene to take pictures, said a reporter of RRI Jayapura, Nurlina Umasugi.
“When the offender was chased and beaten by the police, police told us not to take pictures, yet Noval ignored it. His camera was seized,” Nurlina said.

However, a policeman approached the reporters and apologized for the incident.
