Jayapura, Jubi – Cancer patients at General Hospital (Hospital) Dok II Jayapura, Papua, are in jitters after reports that one fellow patient died due to a lack of chemotherapy drugs.
A chemotherapy patient, Esye Kurubuy, a resident of dok IX, Jayapura, on this week, said that she has not received chemotherapy services because drug stocks ran out.
She said her chemotherapy session had been postponed twice – on August 8 and September 8.
“I have waiting for more than a week, but there was no treatment. There are also other people who face same experience. In fact, we heard there was a patient from the operating room who died due to waiting for the drugs. It makes us worried with the services of the hospital,” she said.
Up to now, we have not received any information yet and are still waiting for it.
“So we are chemotherapy patients, we are very dissatisfied with the existing services in the hospital. The phase 1,2 and 3 chemotherapy treatments must be in accordance with the schedule, “she explained.
It also expressed by other patients from Pirime District, Lanny Jaya regency, Lince Wenda stated during these days she has not received chemotherapy services due to run out of drugs.
“The nurse said there is no drugs so we hope Papua Legislative Council to deal with the hospital to solve this problem, “she said.
The same place, Marhani which is also one of the patients revealed that it was not just the three of them who is in chemotherapy patients, since there are several other women who are also waiting for service as a result of running out of medication.
“Actually, there are many chemotherapy patients but we are invited to meet the director,” said the veiled woman.
Chemotherapy is one of the efforts to kill the cancer cells by interfering with the function of cell reproduction. And Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment method by providing a substance or drug that works and have properties to kill cancer cells. (Munir/ Tina)
