Jayapura, 2/5 (Jubi) – The Military Region Command XVII/ Cenderawasih (Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih), Major General, Christian Zebua said the army has seized 28 firearms belonging to the Free Papua Movement (OPM), The Commander of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih said the weapons included type SS1, AK-47, Mouser, Pistol FN-48, air riffles, air soft guns and assembling guns.
He further said 23 soldiers had been promoted for the haul.
“They joined the different battalion and one soldier, Sugiarto, died on duty,” he said after leading the inauguration at the Military Cenderawasih Headquarter on Friday (2/5).
“I hope those who were promoted will keep their hard work and not to be complacent. The State need the qualified soldiers to defend the its integrity,” he
said.
Earlier, in the beginning of the year, the leader of Free National Liberation Army (TPN-OPM), Goliat Tabuni said his rejection towards the offer of the Government of Indonesia through the Local Government of Puncak Jaya Regency including the provision of housing for him and his men at Tinggi Nambut, Puncak Jaya.
“We refused the offer, and the General Goliat Tabuni may not come down from the mountain to surrender. The information telling him come down was a big lie. It’s a trick,” said the Secretary General of TPN-OPM, Anton Tabuni as published earlier in tabloidjubi.com. (Jubi/Arjuna/rom)
