Jayapura, 14/4 (Jubi) – The Papua Election Commission (KPU) will not release preliminary tallies from the legislative elections as doing so could create tensions and will only be announce the full results at the end of April, its chairman said.
“Please wait, the results will be announced after all recapitulation results are submitted. We learn from the previous experience, ” chairman of KPU Papua, Adam Arisoy, told reporters in Jayapura on Monday (14/4).
The results of legislative election in Papua would be released in accordance with the national schedule, on April 20 or at the end of April, according to Arisoy.
Currently, the vote counts are in the district level (PPD). It will proceed to the regencies or cities level, and finally the Commission will summarize the overall provincial tallies for the entire Papua province.
Meanwhile, chairman of Papua GKI Synod, Rev. Albert Yoku said he hoped the Commission could carry out its duties well and honestly in order to avoid conflicts.
He then urged all candidates and the team to respect and accept the election results. “If the votes are not sufficient, they must be willing to accept and admit others are winning and please do not create conflict,” he said. (Jubi / Albert/ Tina)
