Jayapura, 18/2 (Jubi) – Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe said he hoped that the provincial prosecutors’ office (Kejati) would support the local government’s demand for a share of revenue from PT. Freeport Indonesia.

“We hope that the Kejati could back up us on legal aspects to win our rights, one of them is compensation for the damage of forest by PT Freeport Indonesia,” said Enembe after signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of civil law and state administration with the head of Papua Prosecutors’ office, Eliezer Sahat Maruli Hutagalung,  on Tuesday ( 2/18).

Governor said he just realized that there are institutions and law enforcement agencies that can provide legal consultation and legal defense.
“It is been my 11th month without knowing that there are those who can help us on legal assistance on the criminal field. For that reason, we are very grateful for the MoU, because many things could be done, especially the rights to a number of potential areas, “he said.

In addition, there are many issues that need to be addressed, such as the findings of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), which has not been acted upon, he said.

Chief prosecutor Hutagalung urged the heads of the Working Units not to hesitate in consulting the law on civil and administrative affairs.
“Because there is a signatory to the agreement (MoU), we will soon receive a special power of attorney to support the provincial government, without this, we can not work,” said Hutagalung. (Jubi / Alex/ Tina)
