Jayapura, 8/5 (Jubi) – Police in Papua arrested three members of a drug ring  from Papua New Guinea last week (2/5). The three dealers were arrested in a hotel in Abepura, Jayapura.

The director of the Narcotics Department at the Papua police, Senior Commissioner Tornagogo Sihombing, said the suspects admitted they crossed the border through Wutung and passed by the Hamadi port in Jayapura City.
“The syndicate often took the route of Serui-Sorong, Ambon and Makassar. During this operation, we seized 7.2 Kg of marijuana from PNG at the market price of more than Rp 100 million. In Jayapura and its surrounding area, marijuana is sold from Rp 50 thousand to Rp 1.5 million per package,” Sihombing told a press conference on Thursday (8/5).

He said it is believed that marijuana from PNG has the best quality compared to that from Aceh. He further said the Papua Police will also send a red notice to the Interpol requesting the arrest of two other PNG citizens who are suspected to be marijuana dealers.
“We need help through an inter-state scheme. We keep hunting those two guys while the recent three arrested men confessed it’s the sixth times they have been in the trading since November 2013.

Papua Police Spokesman Senior  Commissioner Pudjo Sulistyo said the suspects faced a maximum life in prison.  (Jubi/Arjuna/rom)
