Jayapura, jubi – Papua Province minimum wage  (UMP) 2018 will be revised to RP 3 million, from the predefined USD 2,8 million.

Revision was done after the previous number All Indonesia Trade Union (SPSI) held protest. “The head of Papua Labor Department Yan Piet Rawar was agreed to set Papua UMP which previously on RP 2.895.650 to RP 3 million,” said the chairman of Papua SPSI, Nurhaida, in Jayapura Monday (November 27).
The changes of UMP was set after the meeting attended by representatives of SPSI, the Regional Secretary of Papua Hery Dosinaen and Head of Department of Labor. “The decision from the meeting is to revise the value, based on what Mr. Dosinaen agreed upon, so we will proceed to the Department of Labor to prepare the needed administration and will be submitted to the governor,” said Nurhaidah .
Previously, SPSI through the council of wage’s representatives has proposed RP 3.2 million for UMP. After negotiation they all agree to set it to the recent number.
The union feel satisfied because Papuan Provincial government support the aspirations of labor. “We on behalf of SPSI is very satisfied with the decision of Mr. Secretary, we consider the value is enough to make ends meet of labor in Papua,” he said.
According to Nurhaidah, companies in Papua are able to pay higher than UMP. Government should have data on the companies that able and not able to pay UMP.
Regional Secretary of Papua, Hery Dosinaen hopes the increase of UMP can give positive impact to the public, especially workers in Papua. “I asked to all the companies to implement this decision. We will write the decision down to all the companies,” said hery. (*)
