Jayapura, Jubi – The Regional Division of the Logistics Agency of Papua and Papua Barat will conduct trials to bring frozen buffalo meat for public consumption in the two provinces.
The Head Division M Attarizal said the trial was to examine the cost of freight charges and procurement on freezers that is considered costly,” he told Jubi on Monday (5/9/2016).
“It’s just a matter of costly transportation. If public interest was quite good, we will gradually increase the demands. It is a new program, in which we introduce the buffalo meat in 1 September along with the Minister of the State Enterprise and Logistic Bureau,” he said.
There is a possibility for quick and appropriate action to take, he said, if people accept and like the buffalo meat for consumption. It is an alternative choice despite the local beef that is currently sold for Rp 135 thousand per kilogram. Tempo.co cited the logistic bureau has socialized the buffalo meat as an alternative to the consumption and introduce its good.
The Head of Logistic Bureau Djarot Kusumayakti said the buffalo meat is less popular as daily consumption though it has advantages as consumption meat.
In term of price, he said on Friday (2/9/2016), the buffalo meat is cheaper than beef. The highest price for buffalo meat is Rp 65 thousand per kilogram while the beef from national market is sold for Rp 114 thousand per kilogram. Djarot said the Logistic Bureau would hand the mechanism of import and distribution of the buffalo meat. (*/rom)
