Papua Police Chief Inspector General Yotje Mende – Jubi
Jayapura, Jubi – Papua Police Chief Inspector General of Police Yotje Mende said he hoped that the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, could be more concerned about social conflicts that occurred in Karubaga, Tolikara on Friday morning (17/07/2015).
“I recommend to the governor to play an active role, as well as with traditional leaders and the local community,” said Mende in Jayapura, Papua, on Tuesday (21/07/2015).
Up to now there is lack of local government attention to the Tolikara case Tolikara including from the Papua governor, he said.
He said that Law No. 7/2012 stated, if a combined military and police at the provincial level directly got involved in the handling of social conflicts, automatically the regional head (governor) should also be active in it.
“Do not let this hot ball is handed over to the police. We (police) will be active with law enforcement and the governor with the handling of humanity, because many of our brothers are victims in this incident including the handling of reconciliation and reconstruction, “he said.
He then pointed out, until now his staff are working to do the humane law enforcement, because they are adjusting with the situation.
“There are still many crowds gathered in Tolikara to implement the TRC and seminars GIDI church. Not all members of church are a perpetrator so that we also have to be careful in the inquiry and investigation, “he said.
Meanwhile, Enembe in a press statement, asking for the mass media, especially the national media as well as social media (facebook, twitter) and others do not exaggerate Tolikara incident.
“Tolikara case is only incidental. It appeared because of a misunderstanding between interfaith religion and society with security forces. Do not be exaggerated again as if we are in Papua do not uphold tolerance, “he said. (*/ Tina)
