Papua Governor Lukas Enembe while met Papua Students in Yogyakarta – Jubi

Jayapura, Jubi – Papua Governor Lukas Enembe said Papuan students in Yogyakarta are also the Indonesian citizens who have rights to respect and protection.

“That Papuan students in Yogyakarta are the citizens that must be respected and protected. Because the reason they came here is to study, not to consume alcohol,” said the governor in front of the Papuan students at Kamasan I student dormitory’s yard in Yogyakarta on last week.

He also said that the insults by members of civil organizations in Yogyakarta, including calling Papuan students monkeys, are far from the truth.

He also asked to Yogyakarta Governor and Yogyakarta Police Chief to give guarantee and legal certainty.

“I asked the Yogyakarta Police Chief to give a guarantee and legal certainty.  That’s why we met Sultan –Yogyakarta Royal also acted as the governor –asking him to provide protection for Papuan students in Yogyakarta,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Papuan Students President in Yogyakarta, Aris Yeimo, said if the sultan did not immediately retract his statement accusing Papuan students of engaging in ‘separatism’ the students would return to Papua instantly.

“We met with the Papua Governor and have said some facts, including the Sultan’s statement calling us separatists. So, if he didn’t retract his statement, as we said to the governor, we would return to Papua. And Yogya citizens in Papua must go back to Yogya as well,” he said. (*/rom)
