Merauke, fourth (Jubi) – Elikobel district in Merauke regency will give eligible voters residency cards to prevent citizens of Papua New Guines travelling there to visit their relatives from voting in the next week’s elections, the district chief said.
“We have taken an appropriate step that every resident of the village in the Elikobel district who already have the right to vote will be given residency cards. The card is only signed by the head of Elikobel district,” Elikobel district chief Fransiskus Kamijay told tabloidjubi.com on Tuesday (1/4).
He said PNG citizens visited Elikobel almost every day and there should be tighter monitoring before the elections.
He expects all chiefs in the villages to take part in monitoring the legislative elections scheduled for April 9.
“I’ve given some guidance directly to the head of each village and am hoping that the legislative elections will run safely and smoothly,” he said.
