Jayapura, Jubi – Papua deputy governor Klemen Tinal died at 50 on Friday, May 21, 2021. Papua Communication and Informatics Agency head Jery Yudianto confirmed the death.
Yudianto said that the deputy governor died in Abdi Waluyo Hospital in Central Jakarta’s Menteng at 4 a.m. The body, Yudianto said, was being prepared for burial at the Gatot Subroto Hospital’s funeral home.
“We are still waiting for the family for further action [regarding the deputy governor’s death]. His wife will arrive in Jakarta this afternoon,” said Yudianto, as quoted by news agency Antara.
“We have not yet received any official statement on the deputy governor’s medical condition,” Yudianto added.
According to the information obtained by Jubi, Tinal was undergoing treatment in Jakarta due to illness. He has been hospitalized since two weeks ago.
Tinal, an Indigenous Papuan born on August 23, 1970, was appointed as deputy governor with governor Lukas Enembe by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in 2018. He also served as Papua deputy governor in the era of President Soesilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono. Prior to his duty as deputy governor, Tinal served as Mimika regent from 2002 to 2013.
