Jayapura, 11/3 (Jubi) – A former Papuan election commissiner and an acting regent who were recently promoted to senior positions in the Papuan provincial government will be summoned by the prosecutor’s office and may  face trial on charges of corruption.

The officials are accused of embezzling 3 billion rupiah in funds intended for the General Election Commission (KPU) in Lanny Jaya in 2011.

The chief of the Papua Prosecutors’ Office, ES. Maruli Hutagalung, said it would summons the two officials, whose initials were given as DW and JW on Thursday (13/3).
“It’s an old case and was droppws by prosecutors. At that time, DW served as secretary of Lanny Jaya Election Commission. While JW was as acting Lanny Jaya regent,” Hutagalung said on Tuesday (11/3).

He added in April 2011 five people were named as suspects including DW and JW.
“Two men should be arrested because they were named as suspects,” he said.
