Jayapura , 5/5 ( Jubi ) – Dozens of people from Nafri Village in Jayapura blocked a garbage disposal site on Monday (5/5) after their candidates failed to win enough votes in the legislative elections.

Nafri village head Zacharias Hanuebi said there were 12 candidates from the city of Jayapura Port Numbay and all of them were disqualified.
“Our expectation is there would be at least a person who wins a seat in Jayapura Legislative Council in order to accommodate the aspirations of Port Numbay people, ” Hanuebi said on Monday (5/5).

He said if their aspirations are not heeded, they will close the disposal site in Nafri.
“The people will continue to block all gevernmnet assets in Port Numbay, ” he said .

At around 12:00, a platoon of fully armed policemen escorted 40 garbage trucks that were stuck around Nafri since early morning.

Operations section chief of Jayapura City Police Commissioner , Bahar Tusiba said it will oversee the landfill in Nafri so that the garbage disposal activities would run well.
” It will be guarded and we hope there will be no blocking again, ” he hopes. ( Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina )
