Jakarta, Jubi – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said said the government has not yet decided to extend Freeport Indonesia’s license.

The minister further said the purpose of Freeport’s Management visit to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources was to confirm approval on Contract of Work (KK) adjustment into IUPK. “Freeport came only to express their approval on KK adjustment into IUPK ( Production Operation Special Mining Permit). That’s all,” he said.

The minister who was the former Director of PT. Pindad also said the government has not given a decision related to the extension of license to this gold mining company until 20 years ahead. “It’s according to the rule that says IUPK can apply for up to 20 years. But the government has not yet decided,” he said.

Earlier, reports said the government would extend the operating license of PT Freeport Indonesia in Papua mining area for 20 years.
