Jayapura, Jubi – The Mapego Indigenous Council demanded relevant agencies to take a firm stance on schools that decided to have 5 school days a week.
“Which regulation mentioned that Saturday is a holiday? There must be a decisive action from the relevant agencies. If teachers are absent and do not do their duties, their salaries should be withheld, “John Gobay, Chairman of Mepago Indigenous Council said to Jubi on Wednesday (29/10).
He said this happens because of the negligence of the teachers. Many schools were built carelessly and lack of quality.
“Moreover, the quality of teachers should also be taken into account in order to produce smart and clever kids,” he said.
“Saturday is a school day, not the day to go home. Teachers should know it. Schooling is more important than returning home,” he stated.
Samuel said he hopes teachers and related agencies would address this issue immediately. “The learning process must run normally again in accordance with the national calender, ” he said. (Aprila Wayar/Tina)
