MSG gives facility to ULMWP representative to join governing body meetings

Jubi- Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) announced on June 23 through its Twitter account that it gave facility to Freddie Waromi, a representative from United Liberation Movement of West Papua (ULMWP), to allow him to join MSG’s governing body meetings.


“Last week we assisted Chief Marikorr (Freddie Waromi), ULMWP representative’s office set-up in Port Vila. The preparation included internet networking tests to allow him to join the upcoming MSG Governing Body meetings from his office, via Zoom,” MSG secretariat said.



Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu, one of the member country in MSG.


MSG’s governing body meetings include Senior Officials Meetings (SOM) attended by leaders of countries under the group. ULMWP has an observer status in MSG.


Yamin Kogoya, a West Papuan, wrote an opinion in asiapacificreport.nz that the fact West Papua, an international term for Papua Land of Indonesia, that many West Papuan hoped for a full membership in MSG.


“Today, West Papuans and their solidarity groups around the world continue to knock on the MSG’s doors. But the fact that the MSG leaders are reluctant to open their arms and embrace Papuans as part of their larger Melanesian nation-states, only adds another episode of tragedy in their liberation stories,” Kogoya wrote.
