Sorong, Jubi – A member of the West Papua People’s Assembly (MRPB), Ruth M Osok, urged the local government to formulate and design maps of indigenous territories in each region.
The map of indigenous territories is very important in order to identify the indigenous tribes of Papua who have customary rights in regencies / cities respectively as well as to avoid conflict . “It is important to know how many tribes in each regency. “she said on Monday (22/6/2015).
She explained the map is also aimed at protecting ethnic minorities that are being threatened because of modernization. “We Papuans are already a minority, so the map is important to protect our rights,” she added. (Niko MB/ Tina).
