Jayapura, 15/5 (Jubi) – The Democratic Party has been accused of stealing votes  from a legislative candidate  from the National Mandate Party (PAN).

“In the vote on last 9 April, the Sub-district Wambe residents agreed to put their vote in noken (tradional purse) and by using this method, Yulius Murib, a PAN candidate won most votes,” one of five members of Sub-district Election Committee, Aminus Wamang told tabloidjubi.com by phone.

He further said this result was based the final vote count held in the Sub-district level. However, at the regency level, when it was handed over to the Election Commission of Puncak Regency the Democratic Party won most votes. Many parties were affected and the Election Commission should take it as their responsibility.
“What has been done by the Election Commission would give rise social conflicts among Puncak residents thought they don’t want to. We members of the Sub-district Election Committee are asking the Election Commission to return the votes to Yulius Murib,” he said.

He further added that the votes were returned Murib in the plenary meeting at provincial level on last 6 May but the witness who represented the Democratic Party did not sign the letter of handover for no particular reason. Consequently, the result for the Democrats were confirmed by the Papua Election Commission. The Sub-district committee has asked the Election Commission of Puncak Regency to send an official letter to the Papua Election Commission to clarify and to review the vote result to announce who was actually elected.

Murib said that he would continue to fight for his votes.
“Whatever it takes, I will make efforts to get my votes back. It’s the people’s voice and faith. If it’s proved that my voting result was transferred I would take it to the court,” he said. (Jubi/Aprila/rom)
