Jayapura, Jubi – Acting Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Chairul Tanjung has urged Freeport Indonesia to meet the demands of land tenure owners, said Manase Degey, the Secretary General of the Worker and Community from Seven Tribes at the Freeport mining area.

“Minister Chairul Tanjung and Minister of Defense Purnomo Yusgiantoro visited the Nemangkawi LIP area on Wednesday (15/10) at around 08:00 Papua time. Both asked the company to fulfill the rights of the indigenous tribes, and not denying the development of their capacities because the Quality Management Service has been ignoring their rights,” Degey told Jubi via a text message on Wednesday afternoon (15/10).

He said the minister said starting from now the rights of seven tribes must be addressed only for them, not for others

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of Papua’s Parliament Yunus Wenda said during this time, the seven tribes were fighting for what supposed to be their rights. “About the internal clash occurred in Freeport, it’s the struggle of Papuans representing the seven tribes. They are fighting for their rights,” said Wenda. (ArjunaPademme/rom)
