Jayapura, Jubi – Indonesian Human Rights Commissioner Natalius Pigai said if the Government has the will to fulfill the aspirations of Papuan people, the Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan must completely focus on resolving human rights issues in Papua.

“It is not about the development or welfare. On contrary, the Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs must give a good understanding towards the Police and Military in Papua. It should be his priority to be solved,” Natalius Pigai told Jubi by phone on Friday (12/2/2016).

According to Pigai, if the Central Government has settled the severe human rights violations, then it could ask the regional heads for taking over the control. “Provides roadmap to resolve the human rights violations in Papua, such as the murder case of four high school students in Paniai, instead of talking about the development. It’s too rush. The settlement of human rights violation cases is more important. The development is only a solution. The State has not been seen for being presence to protect the human rights. Not yet,” he said.

He further questioned the presence of State for Papuan people because he thought it much intervened towards Papuans. “Now it is the National Human Rights Commission to question the State’s presence due to its intervention towards Papuans. The Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs must also give a good response to resolve the Paniai case,” he said.
