Jayapura, 31/3 (Jubi) – The Cenderawasih Regional Military Command (Kodam) XVII has prepared two helicopters to assist the General Elections Commission (KPU) in distributing election supplies in a number of areas in Papua.
Military chief Maj. Gen. Christian Zebua said the helicopters were normally used to transport army personnel.
“Helicopters are ready to distribute election logistics whenever they are needed. We are just waiting for the instruction from the military headquarters,” Zebua said on Sunday (30/3).
According to him, he had received a request for assistance in distributing election supplies.
Earlier, chairman of Papua Election Commission ( KPU Papua) , Adam Arisoy said KPU Papua has written to the Central Election Commission to ask the military to lend its helicoptersfor the distribution of election supplies in 16 regencies in the central highlands of Papua.
“Currently, thousands of ballots are stuck in the cities. For the logistics distribution, we still use a commercial airline and with the help of military helicopters,” he said. (Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina)
