

Local liquor ‘sopi’ (IST)
Merauke, Jubi (30/4)- The Merauke Police has resumed a crackdown on the distribution of the local liquor ‘sopi’.
During a raid on two locations at Jalan Cemara and Ampera Empat, police seized hundreds bottles of sopi, Merauke Police Chief AKBP Sri Satyana told tabloidjubi.com at his office on Wednesday (30/4).
He said the operation was aimed at maintaining stability and security ahead of May Day. Besides seizing the liquor, the police also detained three sellers for questioning.The Chief said alcohol has contributed greatly to rising crimes and police will continue to crackdown on illegal liquor.
Separately, the Merauke Police Spokesman, the First Police Inspector Richard Nainggolan urged the public to report to the police if they know of places and people who produce and sell the illegal alcohol drinks. (Jubi/Frans L Kobun/rom)
