Jayapura, Jubi – The West Papua National Committee (KNPB) expressed doubts about President Joko Widodo’s commitment to release all Papuan political prisoners.

“Currently one of KNPB activists is being detained in Manokwari because of a demonstration on May 20. He is accused of violating the article on incitement. Will he became a political prisoner or not?” a spokesman for KNPB, Bazoka Logo, told press conference in Jayapura on Monday (25/5/2015).

He said a person’s commitment must be in line with his attitudes and actions. When some political prisoners are released, hundreds of others are arrested and detained for a peaceful demonstration.
“Because the president’s statement is not in line with the actions of his subordinates, in this case the police. We doubt the commitment of the president,” he said.

Rafael Natkime, secretary general of the Manokwari Legislative Council told Jubi one of the four detained KNPB activists has been charged with sedition.
“Yoram Magai is charged with violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code. We have received the letter a copy of the decision,” he told Jubi. (Mawel Benny/ Tina)
