Jayapura, Jubi – President Joko Widodo will return to Papua to see the creation of a 1.2 million-hectares of agricultural land in Merauke, regional secretary Hery Dosinaen said.

“He said when he was in Biak that this year he will definitely come again to Papua,” Dosinaen told reporters in Jayapura, Papua on Monday (25/05/2015).

However, he did not know the exact date because the president’s visit is still tentative.
“President Jokowi hoped that every farmer has land, and altogether make up to 1.2 million hectares,” he added.

Previously, Merauke regent Romanus Mbaraka said regency owned paddy fields up to 1.2 million hectares. With the land area, Merauke will potentially be the largest rice barns in Indonesia.
“Merauke has this potential with a total area of 4.6 million hectares. For that we have to seriously, so that in the future no longer need to bring rice from outside Papua. Merauke will be the largest rice supplier, “said Romanus. (Alexander Loen/ Tina)
