Jayapura, Jubi – Indonesian President Joko Widodo Urged the Ministry of Public Works and Housing to finalize the construction of Trans-Papua Road by 2019.
“For the construction of the road of 3,985 kilometers in length, we will prioritize the restricted areas and expect the road could be finalized and connected in 2019. We must work day and night works because many parts are not fixed,” Jokowi said during his visit in Jayapura, Papua on Saturday (9/5/2015).
He said the Director General of Public Works and Public Housing reported some areas should be noticed and many things should be done. Therefore I ask the ministry to finalize it no later than 2019.
“About the problem with the Prosecutor Office, I will solve it after my visit. It’s only for evidence. It’s not a big deal, but it has not finished for five years,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Highways of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Hediyanto said his office p;ans to finalize the entire construction from Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Wamena, Jayapura and Merauke within next five years.
“We speed up at certain sections such as Wagete-Timika Section with 22 kilometers left and Wemana-Kenyam Section with 17 kilometers left. We expect both sections could be finalized in 2016. So we could finish it within 2016,” said Hediyanto.
The Ministry of Public Works is planning to finalize the Wamena-Jayapura Section and Oksibil-Merauke in 2017, while the section of Log Pon-Dekai-Genyem might be finalized at the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019. “Illaga section will be completed at the end of 2019,” he said. (Alexander Loen/rom)
