Jayapura , 3/5 ( Jubi ) – Deflation was recorded in April for, 1.79 percent for Jayapura and 0.05 percent for Merauke while inflation hit 43 cities in Indonesia, the statistics agency said.
“The highest inflation is of 1.57 percent in Pangkal Pinang city and the lowest is 0.01 percent in Jember city and Samarinda. While, the highest deflation is in Jayapura City of 1.79 percent and the lowest is in Lhokseumawe of 0.01 percent,” the head of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Papua , Didik Koesbianto told reporters in Jayapura ,Papua on Friday ( 2/5).
“Jayapura City is the last rank of national level and among Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua provinces,” he said.
Prices of foodstuffs fell 7.14 percent and clothing dropped 0.59 percent. Prices for processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco rose 0.53 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel up 0.04 percent and health services 0.02 percent.
Costs for education and recreation increased 0.06 and transportation, communication and financial services up 0.12 percent .
“The decline in prices led to the significant deflation of commodities including yellow tail , tuna , bloating , tomatoes , mustard greens , tomato fruit , smoked tuna , smoked yellow tail , eggs , gold jewelry ,, fish , mackerel , greetings , household fuel , carrots, red fish, chicken meat and VCD / DVD player,” he explained.
Meanwhile, head of distribution of Papua BPS, Adriana Robaha said , the inflation rate of Jayapura fell -1.79 percent smaller than the national monthly of -0.02 percent .
Then, the Jayapura inflation from December 2013 to April 2014 declined 0.29 percent which was smaller compared to the national rate of 1.39 percent.
“For the inflation rate from April 2013 to April 2014, Jayapura hit 7.49 percent or greater than the amount of 7.25 percent nationwide , ” she said.
“The inflation of core component in April 2014 was down of 4.94 percent ,while inflation component which its price regulated by government increased of 15.52 percent and the inflation of volatile was 8.71 year on year, ” she said . ( Jubi / Alex / Tina )
