Jayapura, Jubi – Papua Governor Lukas Enembe called on all communities in Papua to keep the unity and to promote tolerance in addressing recent violent acts in Jayapura City and surrounding areas.
This was conveyed by Lukas Enembe to journalists after holding a closed meeting with leaders from TNI /Polri, religious figures, and community leaders in Jayapura, Saturday (May 20).
Enembe asserted, it strongly supports the Papua Police Agency and encourages the Papua Police Chief to resolve the pure criminal cases.
He also said that Papua Police Chief has guarantees security to all Papuans so it does not need to be affected by misleading information.
The Provincial Government of Papua together with the Papua Police has agreed to build a security post in a number of locations that are considered vulnerable.
Papua Police chief, Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar admitted that the action of theft with violence, mistreatment and beatings had caused number of victims, so that the police have to explain to religious figures and community relate to the legal process.
The security situation in Jayapura City, especiallya in Waena areas, Heram District is troubling following the murder of middle-aged women in May 19 morning, founded dead in the gutter in front of PLTD (Diesel Electricity Generator) Waena office.
“Of the 35 people being questioned, three have been determined as suspects,” said Boy.
Police chief also asked the community not to be easily provoked for various information through social media that is not necessarily accurate. He said the police would follow up suggestions to increase patrols and security posts in vulnerable places.
“Our cyber team is looking for them (social media accounts distributed inacurate informations),” he said. (*)
