Merauke, Jubi – Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka with local government officials and local parliament Chairman Kanizia Mekiuw visited Wapeko Village in Kurik Sub-district on Sunday (27/4/2015) to inspect preparations for paddy harvesting to be launched by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
During the meeting with local authorities and villagers, the regent said the event preparation has been discussed at regional level and agreed to appoint the 174/ATW Military District Commander as the chairman of committee.
“Actually, the president’s visit to Merauke Regency has not been confirmed yet, but referring to the latest discussion it is scheduled in May 2015. I also have not received the detail information as the president is still engaged in the Asia Africa Conference,” he said. However, the regent said the arrangements should be done by now, including to facilities improvement. “We don’t know yet whether the president choose using the aircraft directly to Wepeko Village or by landline. Thought it has not been fixed yet, I have instructed the General Affairs Office to improve the existing road towards the village and ensure its cleanliness,” he said. Further he expected the coordination and cooperation among related stakeholders including the Military/Police would be sustained.
On this occasion the 174/ATW Military District Commander said the spot monitoring is very important to closely observe the location as well as to meet the people representatives from various regions of Merauke Regency. “It is true that rumor said the Indonesian President will visit Merauke on 6 May 2015, but we don’t have fixed information. If the date was fixed, the Secretariat of State would certainly informed us in prior,” he said. (Frans L Kobun/rom)
