Border of Indonesia – PNG (Jubi)
Jayapura, 20/5 ( Jubi ) – The border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea in Wutung, Kampung Skow Mabo, Muaratami District is still closed, an official said.
“There are two major reasons for closing the border. First, it is because of the security factor and the second is to prevent certain individuals from taking advantage of the legislative elections in a irresponsible manner, ” head of the Jayapura Border Agency , Amos Salossa told reporters in Jayapura on Tuesday afternoon (20/5).
He said he realized that the closing of the border disrupt the border market. As a result, many PNG border-crossers decided to enter Papua by sea.
“So we use the cross border office at Hamadi to serve the visitors of PNG, “he said.
Previously, quoted from Republika.co.id , chief of Jayapura Immigrationn, Gardu Tampubolon, said immigration office has been moved to Hamadi temporarily as a result of the shoot-out incident in Skouw.
“The travelling by sea from Hamadi , Jayapura to Vanimo ( PNG) takes about three hours, ” he said. ( Jubi / Sindung/ Tina)
