Jayapura, Jubi – About 50 percent of alcoholic beverages in Jayapura City are illegal, because their producers had no official permit or paid tax to the Municipal Government, the head of Jayapura Municipal Industry, Trade and Cooperation Robert LN Awi said.

“We found that most of distributed alcoholic beverages were illegal, had no license. Almost 50 percent of the market share were dominated by those illegal producers,” he told reporter on Tuesday (27/9/2016).
He said his office would immediately carry out a large-scale raid to confiscate the products, involving representatives from BPPTSP, Regional Secretary, Dispenda, Civil Servant Police and Industry and Cooperation Office.
“We would implemented it in October and December and the Acting Mayor would take a lead. If these illegal were founded, we will seize it and its silence would be withdrawn,” he said.
About the total of existing quota, the Industry, Trade and Cooperation Office said according to the Decree of Jayapura Mayor No. 64 Year 2015, the sub-distributors should pay the taxes to Jayapura Municipal Dispenda and there are three companies namely PT Surya Mandiri Jaya Utama with quota of 922 thousand litters of A category, 81.1 thousand litters of B category, 88.414 litter of C category and CV Seman Makmur with quota of 43 litters for C category.
“Currently only PT Surya Mandiri Jaya Utama is still active. Seman Makmur has not operated anymore and Rajawali only pay the taxes if they imported the goods,” said Awi.
He didn’t mentioned the number of distributors who not pay the taxes to the municipal government because he said it is predicted that the sub-distributors only had permit from the Trade Office instead of Jayapura Municipal Government.
“Other just sneaked it in the container,” he added.
A local alcoholic beverages seller at Entrop area, who didn’t want his name written, did not want to explain where did he got it. He also admitted he didn’t know whether his distributor is one of taxpayer or the illegal one. However, he agreed about the raid.
“I think it’s no need to say. All of us did it for the living. So let’s the government did it,” he said. (*/rom)
