Jayapura, 13/2 (Jubi) – Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommy Mano said that houses for the poor provided by the government should not be used to as places to make homemade alcoholic drinks.

“Please use it as a shelter and a place to praise the Lord,” said Mano in a speech during the handover of houses and the launch of the Family Planning Counseling Center on Thursday at Pasir Dua, Jayapura Utara sub-district, Kota Jayapura.

The head of the city’s Social Department, Irawadi, said  the houses cost Rp 85 million, with funding coming from from the Mayor’s Grant for 2013.
“The grant is intended for the rebuilding of houses that were burned in October 2013. It cost Rp 85 million to build 9 x 6 square-meter semi permanent houses  using black wood,” he said on Thursday (13/2).

A beneficiary, Andreas Yan Haay, said his house was burned down in the October fire.
“I am grateful for this donation,” he said.
