The body of Herius Tabuni while cremated on Wednesday (Jubi)
Timika, 20/3 (Jubi) – The body of Herius Tabuni, who died after being attacked by an unidentified group with crude weapons inTimika, Mimika on Tuesday night(18/3), was cremated on Wednesday (19/3).
The family picked up the body at State General Hospital in Mimika around 10:00 am ( local time), then took it to his village, welcomed by hundreds of residents with bows and arrows. The situation was tense as the police initially objected to the family’s wish to customarily cremate the body, fearing an outbreak of violence.
Earlier, on Tuesday evening, around 19:00 (local time), Herius, an employees at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in Puncak Jaya regency was assaulted by group of people armed with sharp weapons in front of Timung Sri Rahayu.
The head of BPS of Puncak Jaya regency, Bambang Wahyu Aji Poncho, confirmed that the victim was an employee and served as statistics coordinator in Sinak district.
The information gathered around 12:00 ( local time) 50 people from the victim’s family blocked the airport in Ilaga, demanding that Puncak Jaya regent, who was in Jayapura, immediately return in order to resolve the case. (Jubi / Eveerth/ Tina)
