Jakarta, Jubi – The government has formed a special team to integrate the government’s plans and policies on natural resources business management in Papua for the development of eastern Indonesia.
“The special team formed by Presidential Decree No.16/2015 will result a blue print on several development policies in Papua,” said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirmand Said.
After the meeting with the Assessment Team on Natural Resources Management for Papua Economic Development held in National Planning Agency Office in Jakarta on Monday (29/6/2015), he announced the study would produce a comprehensive evaluation from every aspects of economy, social, culture, legal and environment.
The Minister of National Development Planning/Head of National Planning Agency Andrinof Chaniago is leading the assessment team that consisting of 9 ministers of Working Cabinet, the Attorney General, the Head of Indonesia Investment Coordination Board, Papua Governor, West Papua Governor and First Deputy for Monitoring and Evaluation of Presidential Staff Office.
Sudirman Said said this team is becoming a forum to discuss any Contract of Work related to the natural resources management in Papua. However, he further said in the first meeting, the team has not yet discussed about the details of current projects and contracts of work. In addition, Sudirman said the team also becomes a forum of government’s development plans in Papua, such as the development of Teluk Bintuni industrial region in West Papua.
“Each technical ministries would propose their programs and the National Planning Agency would be a mediator,” he said.
After the first meeting, the team would form a technical team, which the members could be non-government officials. The Minister of National Development Planning/the Head of National Planning Agency Andrinof Chaniago said the team would provide an evaluation report and assessment on Papua natural resources management once a month at minimum to President Joko Widodo that their recommendation could also be a pilot for natural resources management in other regions. “The team will be in charge until 31 December 2015,” said Chaniago.
